The Winery
Jean-Paul Balland handed over the running of the estate to his two daughters, Elise and Isabelle, in 2017. Isabelle had trained as a winemaker in Burgundy and now makes the wines, whilst Elise runs the office. The wines of Bué in the Loire Valley are full and rich in style, and the Balland wines are a classic example from the village. The Sancerre Blanc comes from a mixture of limestone pebbles called caillottes and chalky-clay Terres Blanches. The wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel and undergo regular lees stirring, often called bâtonnage.
