Drew's Tasting Note

A mass of citrus, jasmine and apple on the nose. Fresh lime and lemon with the natural sweetness of a Cox’s apple on the palate. Also, a note of sherbet. A wine that will develop with age and reveal characteristic toasty marmalade notes.

Producer: d'Arenberg | Vintage: 2020 | From: McLaren Vale; Adelaide Hills; Clare Valley, Australia | Alcohol: 10.0 | Style: dry white, still, vegan | Grape: Riesling

The Winery

The oldest vineyards of the d’Arenberg estate were planted in the 1880s in McLaren Vale, South Australia, and the Osborn family have been tending to them and more since 1912. Chester Osborn is of the fourth generation and supervises making the estate’s distinctive (and uniquely named - make sure you read the back label) wines using traditional techniques both in the vineyard and the winery, including open fermentation, foot treading and basket pressing. Basket pressing is a labour-intensive process, and d’Arenberg is one of Australia's few wineries to use this method for red and white wines. This gentle and controlled method results in exceptional quality wines, making it a worthwhile endeavour.
