An expressive nose of black cherries, blackcurrants, blueberries, violets and warm spices, with hints of balsamic and graphite. Generous and concentrated fruit flavours on the palate, with firm tannins and a mineral edge. A long, vivid and delicious finish.

The Winery

Bodega Garzón sits in the hills of south-eastern Uruguay, close to the Atlantic coast and 160 metres above sea level, on soils geologists call the Crystalline Basement, some of the oldest on the planet, formed over 2,500 million years ago. As this ancient rock erodes, it produces a gravelly, mineral-rich soil the winery calls Ballast, which gives its name to their flagship wine. The proximity of the Atlantic Ocean brings a steady coastal breeze that tempers the summer heat. The vineyard itself comprises more than 1,000 individual plots, each with its own microclimate and character, all farmed organically and hand-picked at optimum ripeness.
