The Winery

Jean-Michel Cazes, owner of Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, spent years searching the Languedoc for a terroir worthy of his attention. He found it in La Livinière, a village at the foot of the Montagne Noire and the source of the finest wines in the Minervois. In 2002, he purchased two neighbouring estates and combined them into a single 150-hectare domaine, comprising 60 hectares of vines and 25 of olive groves. With his son Jean-Charles, he chose a name with deep local resonance: L'Ostal, the Occitan word for both house and family group. The following year, a 19th-century tile factory on the estate was acquired and converted into the winery, and the first wines were released in 2004.
