The Winery

The Vilarnau family have been rooted in the Penedès region of Catalonia since the 12th century, cultivating vines that had long been established in the landscape. Their first family-labelled Cava was produced in 1949, and in 1982 the estate became part of the González Byass family of wineries. In 2005, a modern winery was built on the estate, marking a new era of innovation for one of Catalonia's most historic Cava producers. Sustainability is central to everything they do. Vilarnau holds organic certification and is the first Cava house to achieve the Wineries for Climate Protection certification, recycling corks and using leftover vine shoots as fuel. Under the long-standing stewardship of winemaker Eva Plazas Torné, who has been with the estate since 1996, Vilarnau maintains full control over every aspect of production, from vineyard to bottle.
