Drew's Tasting Note

Powerful aromas and flavours of morello cherries, blackberries, blackcurrants, dark chocolate, coffee, cracked black pepper, and well-integrated oak. Vibrant and fresh with luxurious soft tannins. Excellent structure and long finish. “The Super Tuscan of Montalcino.” Delectable.

The Winery

Argiano was first recorded in a document dating from 813 AD. The name is said to derive from Ara Jani, a temple to the Roman god Janus, once believed to have stood on the site. A family chapel built on that ground still stands today. In the late 16th century, the Pecci family commissioned Villa Bellaria, described in 1616 as the most beautiful country palazzo in the Sienese State. In 1967, Argiano was among the founding estates of the Consorzio del Brunello, and in 1995, the legendary enologist Giacomo Tachis created Solengo, a groundbreaking Super Tuscan that brought the estate international attention. In 2014, André Santos Esteves acquired Argiano and appointed Bernardino Sani as winemaker and CEO, pursuing organic certification and carbon neutrality, and making it the first plastic-free winery in Montalcino. In 2023, Wine Spectator named the 2018 Brunello its Wine of the Year, the culmination of a decade of investment and renewal.
