Drew's Tasting Note

I am a massive fan of Zinfandel, and this one is utterly delicious. Luscious aromas and flavours of ripe blackcurrants and blackberries with hints of rosemary and vanilla. Beautifully integrated oak. A long and lingering finish.

The Winery

The Bogle family have been farming in California's Sacramento Delta for six generations, though it was Warren Vernon Bogle who planted the area's first wine grapes in Clarksburg in 1968, laying the ground for what is now a third-generation winery. The family vinify every block of fruit separately to preserve the character of each vineyard, and age their red wines in a barrel room holding over 95,000 small oak barrels. They are a Certified California Sustainable Winery that employs eco-friendly practices and supports local communities through their Bogle Gives Back initiative.

For the Old Vine Zinfandel, the winemakers at Bogle seek out the gnarly, head-trained, dry-farmed vines of Amador and Lodi Counties, between 60 and 80 years old, first planted by European immigrants in the early 1900s. Dry farming and age combine to produce small, concentrated clusters at very low yields, giving the wine great depth and intensity.
