Drew's Tasting Note

I am a massive fan of Zinfandel, and this one is utterly delicious. The nose is a rich mix of juniper, black pepper and hedgerow blackcurrants that awaken the senses. Garnet glitters in the glass, while flavours of cranberries and raspberries glisten on the palate. After ageing in 2-year-old American oak for 14 months, hints of blackberry crumble wrap up a long and lingering finish.

The Winery

It was in 1968 when Warren Vernon Bogle, 4th generation, planted the first wine grapes in the Bogle family’s Home Ranch in Clarksburg, California. Ten years later, they began releasing wine with the family name, and the original winery, constructed in 1979, still stands. For the Old Vine Zinfandel, the winemakers at Bogle seek out the gnarly head-trained and dry-farmed pioneering vines, ranging in age from 60-80 years old, first planted by European immigrants in the early 1900s. These old vines produce low yields of small, concentrated fruit clusters, which create intense and flavourful wines.
