Drew's Tasting Note

This has to be one of the most luscious Merlots I have had in a long time. Jammy-rich layers of succulent strawberries and blackcurrants are laced with deep notes of liquorice and dark chocolate. A medium-bodied, elegant wine with impressive structure, luxurious soft tannins and a very long silky finish.

The Winery

Bonterra (“good earth" in Italian) has been making organic wine in Mendocino County, Northern California, since 1987 and is now America's number-one organic winery. Drew first visited in the early 1990s and has never forgotten the impression it made: it was the first winery he had encountered that was genuinely committed to working with nature rather than around it, using animals, insects and wildlife to create low-intervention vineyards that yield pure, flavourful fruit. The philosophy remains unchanged, and the wines are as consistent as ever.
