Drew's Tasting Note

Sweet black cherries, raspberries and strawberries on the nose. Light and smoky black fruit on the palate with a faint hint of dark chocolate. Subtle vanilla oak on the finish. Very reminiscent of a red Burgundy. This wine would go well with game, poultry, or a vegetarian tagine.

The Winery

When the gold rush brought thousands to California in 1849, Agoston Haraszthy was after something different. The Hungarian-born pioneer settled in Sonoma in 1857, founded Buena Vista, California’s first premium winery, and produced 6,500 gallons in his first vintage, convinced that Sonoma’s soils and climate could yield something exceptional. He was right, and Buena Vista grew rapidly, with over 250 acres under vine by 1860. The winery is now a California Historic Landmark. In 2011, Jean-Charles Boisset (who had first visited as a child and never forgotten it) acquired the estate and embarked on an extensive restoration of the original stone buildings.
