Drew's Tasting Note

Raw red fruits, kirsch and cassis aromas on the nose. On the palate, hedgerow black fruit flavours combine with woodsmoke, tinged with liquorice and black tea. Great velvety finish. A wine that will continue to evolve over the next 10-12 years.

The Winery

Château Ormes de Pez has been part of the Saint-Estèphe landscape since the 18th century. In the local dialect, “pez’ means peace, and ”ormes” refers to the elms that once grew on the estate before the species all but vanished from Europe. The Cazes family's connection dates back to around 1880, when Marie Cazes married the château's cellar master. Her brother Jean-Charles subsequently purchased the estate in 1940, making it the second Cazes property after Lynch-Bages. Across 40 hectares, gravelly rises give way to cooler clay and sand, and the wines are crafted with the same attention to detail the Cazes family bring to Lynch-Bages.
