Drew's Tasting Note

One of the first Bordeaux Chateaux I ever sold at the beginning of my career. The 2017 vintage has a blend of hedgerow blackcurrant, tobacco leaf, and a faint floral note on the nose. The subtle black fruits meld deliciously on the palate with earthy leather and vanilla pod flavours into a well-balanced red wine with a lengthy finish.

Producer: Château Siran | Vintage: 2017 | From: Bordeaux, France | Alcohol: 13.5 | Size: 75cl | Style: full-bodied red, still, vegetarian | Grape: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc

The Winery

The Miailhe family have owned Château Siran since 1859, when Léo Barbier purchased the estate from Jeanne Adèle de Toulouse-Lautrec, the great-grandmother of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The family's roots in Bordeaux wine go back even further, to 1783, when Elie Miailhe was appointed wine broker under a royal concession. Édouard Miailhe, the sixth generation, took over in 2007 and has since overseen significant work in both the vineyard and the winery. The 25 hectares in Margaux are planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine spends 12 to 14 months in barrel, with 60 to 70 per cent new oak each year.
