Drew's Tasting Note

Delicate notes of poached pear, orange peel and white flowers. Experience would suggest these aromas develop more complexity and richness, moving to subtle honey, marmalade and candied citrus zest over time. Elegant flavours of dried stone fruits and orange zest are complemented by hints of lime that lead to a refreshingly sweet finish.

The Winery

Nestled in the high country of Eden Valley, Heggies Vineyard is high above sea level. The soil is a thin layer of grey sandy loam over clay and decomposed rock. The average annual rainfall is so little that the vines must compete vigorously for moisture and nutrients. Through innovative viticultural practices and unique terroir, this challenging and picturesque estate vineyard produces distinctive, balanced wines – beautifully structured and long on flavour. The vineyard parcel for the Botrytis Riesling almost chooses itself, situated on a gentle westerly slope with trees providing shelter on three sides and a dam forming the border at the base of the vineyard. These factors lead to more humid, still conditions, with morning fog perfect for developing Botrytis cinerea.
