Drew's Tasting Note

For lovers of juicy, spicy red wines, this Malbec offers ripe black fruit with a hint of eucalyptus on the nose. On the palate, these big, luscious black fruits are melded with cracked black pepper, a touch of spice, balanced with toasted vanilla oak. The finish is deliciously long. A perfect accompaniment to roast meat, roasted veg dishes, or pasta with a rich sauce. And let us not forget a platter of cheeses! I am a massive fan of this Malbec.

The Winery

Established in 1909, Bodega Humberto Canale takes its name from its founder, a civil engineer who played a significant role in developing viticulture in the Rio Negro valley, helping to establish the irrigation systems that made farming possible in this corner of Patagonia. With five generations behind it, the estate is the oldest winery in the region, located in the upper Rio Negro valley, where the waters from the melting snows of the Andes irrigate the land, unpolluted air brings exceptional clarity of light, and the surrounding desert and persistent south-westerly winds create a naturally protected growing environment. Artisan methods and modern winemaking techniques sit side by side, as they have for more than a century.
