Drew's Tasting Note

A concentrated nose of black fruits and subtle notes of dried herbs, spice and cedar. On the palate, ripe black cherry and plum fruit combine with savoury and spice notes. Deliciously complex with a textured, nutty oak finish.

The Winery

The Jackson Estate story began in 1855, when Adam Jackson bought his first piece of land in Marlborough. The gum tree on the label (known as the “Grey Ghost” for the sounds it makes as it cools at night) was planted on the homestead block by Alice Jackson in 1867. Five generations later, John Stichbury planted the first vines in 1990, and the first wines were released the following year. The Benton family purchased the estate in 2013 and soon began building a winery dedicated to Pinot Noir, which opened in 2017. Its design, by Brian Massey (art director of the Hobbit movie trilogy), was inspired by a settler's hut from the 1850s, a reference to the estate's deep roots in Marlborough. Jackson Estate was awarded Best Pinot Noir in the World at the IWSC in 2019.
