The Winery

Lani is the solo project of Alana McGettigan, who has worked alongside Blank Canvas co-owner Matt Thomson in Italy, France and New Zealand since 2005. The wines are made from grapes grown on her aunt and uncle's vineyard beside the Opawa River in Marlborough, 15-to-20-year-old Gewürztraminer vines planted on heavy clay soils, a grape variety that is a rarity in a region dominated by Sauvignon Blanc. Each year, the team works hard to control yields and balance flavour and sugar ripeness, and the resulting wines have the aromatic intensity and restraint that makes Gewürztraminer so compelling at the table.
