The Winery

Cantine Pellegrino was founded in 1880 by Paolo Pellegrino (a passionate local notary-turned-winegrower) in Marsala on the western tip of Sicily. It is now in its sixth generation of family ownership. More than 140 years later, the family has built a deep understanding of Sicily's indigenous grape varieties, with estates spanning vineyards from Marsala and Trapani to the volcanic island of Pantelleria, where Pellegrino has been producing wine since 1992. On Pantelleria, the Zibibbo grape (also known as Muscat of Alexandria) grows on low, head-trained bushes in the island's volcanic soils, a traditional farming practice recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
