The Winery

Pewsey Vale was the first vineyard planted in the Eden Valley, established in 1847 by Englishman Joseph Gilbert, who also introduced Riesling to Australia. After a period of dormancy, the vineyard was replanted entirely with Riesling in 1961. It has been under the Hill-Smith family's custodianship since 1970 and has since expanded to 66 hectares at an altitude of nearly 500 metres. The vineyard comprises 29 blocks, 27 of which are blended to produce the Estate Riesling, while the remaining two (The Contours and the 1961 Block) are old-vine parcels released with additional bottle age.
