Drew's Tasting Note

Layered aromas of raspberries, morello cherries, rose, wild herbs, and spice. The fruit and herbs also deliver on the palate, with a hint of orange peel. A subtle use of oak, very fresh in the mouth. Elegant yet powerful. Terrific length. It already shows excellent ageing at ten years old, with maybe another decade to go.

The Winery

Pio Cesare was founded in 1881 by Cesare Pio in the historic centre of Alba, Piedmont. Now in its fifth generation, the estate has remained in family hands. Following the passing of the much-respected Pio Boffa in 2021, Federica and Cesare, alongside their cousin Augusto, now guide the winery. The estate's 80 hectares of vineyards in the Barolo and Barbaresco regions are farmed sustainably, with a careful focus on quality over quantity, producing wines that have earned Pio Cesare a reputation as one of Piedmont's most enduring and respected names.
