Drew's Tasting Note

An expressive nose of blackberries, blackcurrants, plum, and raspberries with notes of sweet spices and a hint of chocolate. Rich, elegant and fresh. Full-bodied, complex and beautifully balanced with a long and layered finish. Perfectly drinkable now, but will age gracefully.

The Winery

In the heart of the Douro Valley sits a small vineyard and winery, Quinta de La Rosa, owned by Sophia Bergqvist, the only British woman managing a Port house. Established in 1906, when La Rosa was gifted to her grandmother as a christening present, the family has now owned the estate for three generations. Quinta de La Rosa began producing its own port again when Sophia and her father, Tim, relaunched the label in 1988. It is one of a handful of Douro estates where the vineyards begin at the edge of the river and rise to the top of the mountain, climbing 450 meters and passing through 11 different microclimates. The entire process, from vineyard to bottle, happens on the estate, where they produce small quantities of excellent quality wine and port.
