The Winery

Roberto Oliván is one of the leading names among a new generation of winemakers in Rioja. Based in the village of Viñaspre, near Lanciego at the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria mountains, Oliván has acquired numerous small vineyard plots across the area, hand-picking grapes from a selection of high-altitude sites for his Tentenublo wines. He works organically, using native yeast fermentation and ageing in French oak, and brings the same care and attention to the label as to the wine itself. Tentenublo takes its name from the ringing of bells traditionally used in Rioja villages to ward off hailstorms that threaten the harvest, a detail that makes a playful appearance in the label's cartoon artwork.
