The Winery

Warwick Estate has a winemaking history dating back to 1964, when Stan Ratcliffe purchased the Stellenbosch estate and, together with his wife Norma, began planting Cabernet Sauvignon. Norma went on to become one of South Africa's first female winemakers, releasing the estate's debut wine, La Femme Bleu, in 1984. In 1997 came perhaps their most significant achievement: the Three Cape Ladies, the world's first bottled Cape Blend, which later gained further fame as James Bond's wine of choice in the 2011 novel Carte Blanche. Situated on the slopes of Simonsberg Mountain, the estate's legacy lives on under the stewardship of Cellarmaster JD Pretorius, who continues Norma's tradition of carefully matching grape varietals to their ideal soils across the estate and nurturing the land and vines with sustainability at the forefront.
