Drew's Tasting Note

An enticing array of plums, blackberries and a hint of fruitcake on the nose. These combine with notes of liquorice, spicy oak, dark chocolate, cedar and leather on the palate. The concentration of fruit combines with delicious soft oak to deliver a vibrant mouthful through the finish.

The Winery

Wirra Wirra was established in 1894 by Robert Strangways Wigley, a noted South Australian eccentric, former state cricketer, and wine producer who helped put McLaren Vale on the map. The winery lay dormant for decades before Greg Trott rebuilt it in the late 1960s, determined to restore Wirra Wirra to its former standing. Today, many of the estate's blocks have been farmed organically and biodynamically since 2013, with the quality of the fruit, whether from old vines on the estate or carefully selected growers across McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills, at the heart of everything they do. True to Greg Trott's philosophy, the pursuit of quality has never overshadowed his belief that it should all be fun.
