Drew's Tasting Note

An enticing array of plums, blackberries and a hint of fruitcake on the nose. These combine with notes of liquorice, spicy oak, dark chocolate, cedar and leather on the palate. The concentration of fruit combines with delicious soft oak to deliver a vibrant mouthful through the finish.

The Winery

Robert Strangways Wigley, a noted South Australian eccentric and former state cricketer, established Wirra Wirra in 1894. Wigley became known for his world-class wines that helped build the reputation of McLaren Vale. Greg Trott rebuilt the winery in the late 1060s with a vision to return Wirra Wirra to its former glory. Many of the blocks on the Wirra Wirra estate have been managed organically and biodynamically since 2013. The source of the fruit is most important, whether from the old vines on the estate or the growers across McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. The winemakers of the Wirra Wirra Tribe are serious about the quality of the wine they make and drink and the vines they grow, but they follow the mantra of Greg Trott’s philosophy on life: it should all be fun.
