Drew's Tasting Note

An enticing nose of wild strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, and red cherries leads to a refreshing palate with zippy citrus zest alongside those lush red berry fruits. An excellent English rosé.

The Winery

Woodchester Valley was founded in 2007 by Fiona Shiner, who originally planted a single experimental acre on the Amberley hillside in the South Cotswolds. There are now 58 acres across three sites: Amberley, Woodchester, and Doverow Hill in Stonehouse. The soils are predominantly limestone, with shallow Cotswold brash over Oolitic limestone at Amberley and Woodchester (well-suited to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay) and deeper clay soils at Stonehouse (better suited to Bacchus). The winery was established in 2016, with Jeremy Mount as winemaker. The area has deep historical roots: a vineyard at the Stonehouse site is recorded in the Domesday Book, and Woodchester is home to the Orpheus Roman mosaic, which gives its name to the estate's premium Bacchus, made only in selected years from the oldest vines.
